Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-221 showed direct correlations with TLR4 (P = .02), MyD88 (P < .01), and TRAM (P = .03) gene expression in the whole blood of severely injured trauma patients compared to healthy controls [Uhlich et al. DOI:10.1016/j.surg.2014.06.017]. A separate review of human skin studies reported that the mir-221 was downregulated in burn hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100].
