A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-223-3p was the most up-regulated differentially expressed miRNA in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) [Wang et al. DOI:10.2147/IJGM.S329391]. In a separate human study, plasma-derived exosomes from trauma patients showed significant downregulation of the miR-223-3p compared to operative controls, with this miRNA being involved in late-stage hematopoiesis [Munley et al. DOI:10.1097/TA.0000000000004225]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-223-3p is a saliva-specific marker, validated by RT-qPCR in 169 samples where it showed significantly higher expression in saliva compared to other body fluids and remained stable in dried samples for up to 24 months [Chen et al. DOI:10.1016/j.legalmed.2023.102312].
