A study in humans demonstrated that plasma hsa-miR-224-5p is markedly upregulated following trauma and contains pro-inflammatory nucleotide motifs, with its expression showing severity-dependent increases and strong associations with various injury markers [Ren et al. DOI: 10.1016/j.isci.2025.113569]. A separate review in humans noted that hsa-miR-224-3p, an isoform, is upregulated in burn hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal skin [Siu et al. DOI: 10.1111/wrr.13100].
