A study in humans with coronary artery disease identified the mir-23c as a biomarker for recurrent myocardial infarction risk, demonstrating it was downregulated in whole blood of patients with recurrent MI compared to those without, with this differential expression remaining significant after false discovery rate correction (FDR <0.1) [Onuoha et al. The investigation found this miRNA was not significantly different in plasma samples, indicating whole blood as the preferred sample source for its detection in this clinical prognostic context.
