Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-2392 is a novel microRNA marker highly overexpressed in semen, showing high sensitivity and specificity for semen identification with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of approximately 0.92 [Park et al. DOI:10.1002/elps.201400075]. This biomarker was validated by qRT-PCR in additional samples and is recognized as a potential marker for semen identification in forensic body fluid analysis [Song et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-023-03091-1]. Another human study using massively parallel sequencing also noted the mir-2392 as a previously reported semen-specific marker, though it was not a primary focus of that investigation [Wang et al.
