Forensic Context

A study in humans identified the miR-25-3p as a diagnostic miRNA upregulated in saliva following mild traumatic brain injury, where it targets 1407 genes and is part of a robust signaling signature concurrently reflected in serum, plasma, and saliva [Matyasova et al. DOI:10.4149/gpb_2021038]. A study in non-human primates (Macaca mulatta) demonstrated that plasma expression of the miR-25-3p at or below the median abundance at day 15 post whole-thorax lung irradiation was associated with statistically significant reduced survival [Rogers et al. DOI:10.1667/RADE-20-00031.1]. In a separate study using Sprague-Dawley rats, the miR-25-3p was found to be upregulated 1.73-fold in the corpus cavernosum of obese rats with erectile dysfunction compared to controls [Bai et al. DOI:10.1016/j.esxm.2017.06.006].
