A study in young human patients with acute coronary syndrome identified the miR-25-5p as up-regulated in ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients via small RNA sequencing [Tong et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms19051467]. A separate meta-analysis in human mild traumatic brain injury patients found the miR-25-5p was up-regulated in saliva, with its expression linked to specific molecular signaling pathways [Matyasova et al. DOI:10.4149/gpb_2021038]. A study in non-human primates (Macaca mulatta) demonstrated that the abundance of the miR-25-5p in plasma at day 15 post whole-thorax lung irradiation was associated with statistically significant differences in survival, where expression above the median was linked to reduced survival [Rogers et al. In rats, research showed that the miR-25-5p was upregulated in the infralimbic prefrontal cortex after a 4-week abstinence from escalated cocaine intake [Kumaresan et al.
