A separate study in human trauma patients demonstrated that the mir-26b was significantly upregulated in circulating T cells during the injury stage compared to the recovery stage, though it had no connections to downregulated mRNA targets in the identified interactome [Rau et al. A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-26b is significantly downregulated in platelets from septic patients compared to healthy controls, with its attenuated levels correlating with disease severity and 28-day mortality [Szilágyi et al.
