Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-27b was downregulated in serum at baseline (within one hour of injury) in patients with mild traumatic brain injury compared to matched controls, leading to its classification as a potential biomarker for mTBI [Polito et al. DOI:10.1007/s11033-020-05386-7]. However, it was subsequently excluded from the final biomarker panel as it was deemed not suitable for this application in the study's experimental context. A study in rats with deep second-degree scald burns demonstrated that inhibition of the mir-27b significantly accelerated wound healing, increased fibroblast growth in skin tissues, and upregulated the expression of MMP-1, α-SMA, collagen I, and collagen III [Bi et al. DOI:10.3892/etm.2020.9191].
