A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-296 was significantly upregulated (3.82-fold) in exosomal miRNA from postmortem serum of acute myocardial infarction cases compared to hemorrhagic shock controls, indicating its potential association with this pathology [Kanno et al. DOI:10.1007/S00414-022-02913-Y]. In a separate human study, a candidate miRNA marker for menstrual blood identification, selected from microarray screening, was not confirmed by subsequent RT-PCR validation, which showed non-specific expression across all tested body fluids [Zubakov et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-009-0402-3]. A study in mice demonstrated that the mir-296 is up-regulated in wound tissue during skin wound healing [Wang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.ajpath.2012.08.022], and a review of traumatic brain injury (TBI) research noted that the mir-296 is up-regulated in mouse brain tissue biopsy following mild TBI and was mentioned as an angiogenic factor in wound healing contexts [Martinez & Peplow DOI:10.4103/1673-5374.219025].
