A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-30a was significantly positively correlated with age in peripheral blood from physiologically unaffected individuals, showing a correlation of 0.429 with a raw P value of 1.58E-05 in a microarray analysis [Meder et al. In a separate human study, the mir-30a was identified as up-regulated in plasma from young patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) via small RNA sequencing, though it was not validated by subsequent qRT-PCR [Tong et al.
