Forensic Context

A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with five key miRNAs (hsa-miR-21, hsa-miR-31, hsa-miR-23b, hsa-miR-200b, hsa-let-7c) altering fibroproliferative markers and cell behaviors post-burn [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that serum exosomal miR-193b-5p was significantly reduced in sepsis and septic shock patients compared to controls and exhibited diagnostic potential with an AUC of 0.797, correlating inversely with inflammatory markers like CRP, PCT, and IL-6 [Li et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-025-89946-6]. A study in humans demonstrated a significant up-regulation of miR-30b-3p in both plasma and hippocampal tissue from a single case of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy compared to control cases [De Matteis et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Legalmed.2017.12.003]. Research in mice and human hematopoietic cells showed that miR-30b-3p is upregulated by γ-radiation in a dose-dependent manner and directly targets the antiapoptotic factor Mcl-1 to promote apoptosis [Li et al. DOI:10.1007/s10495-016-1238-1].
