Forensic Context

A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with the mir-302c being downregulated in hypertrophic scar tissue compared to normal tissue [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in human ex vivo skin explants demonstrated that the mir-302c was among 37 preselected miRNAs analyzed by qPCR in exosome-like vesicle-enriched dermal interstitial fluid fractions, but it could not be detected in this compartment [Foessl et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms22179209]. A separate review noted that in other biological contexts, such as mouse and human spermatozoa, a circular RNA named circNAPEPLDiso1 specifically interacts with the mir-302c among other miRNAs, suggesting a potential role as a paternal-derived sponge inside fertilized oocytes [Di Agostino et al. DOI:10.3389/fcell.2020.00389].
