Forensic Context

A review of human studies found that the mir-31 is upregulated in hypertrophic scar tissue and its derived fibroblasts compared to normal skin and fibroblasts, and is also upregulated in skin wounds at 1 and 7 days post-injury [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. In forensic wound identification, the mir-31 is involved in wound contraction and collagen deposition in mouse skin and has been confirmed as a novel biomarker for wound age estimation [Lei et al. DOI:10.1093/gpbjnl/qzag007].
