Forensic Context

A study in humans using massively parallel sequencing identified the mir-3120-3p as an absolute specific marker for menstrual blood, demonstrating high specificity in all five pairwise comparisons and high expression [Liu et al. DOI:10.3390/genes13091530]. Another human study using RT-qPCR on simulated forensic traces found the mir-3120-3p showed no expression or values below the detection threshold in menstrual blood and was therefore discarded from the final marker panel [Altmeyer et al. DOI:10.1002/elps.202400089].
