A study in humans identified hsa-miR-3158-3p as a differentially expressed microRNA, with its expression downregulated in the peripheral whole blood of sepsis patients compared to healthy controls [Qin et al. Another human study found the miR-3158-3p was upregulated in serum exosomes from both sepsis and septic shock patients relative to healthy controls and was identified as a critical miRNA within a differentially expressed miRNAs-mRNAs network [Li et al.
