A study in human myocardial autopsy specimens from septic patients demonstrated that the miR-320c was significantly up-regulated in septic hearts compared to non-septic controls [Pasi Lehto et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-024-81114-6]. In a separate investigation of human denatured dermis from deep burn patients, the miR-320c was validated to be up-regulated 8.4-fold compared to paired normal skin [Liang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2011.10.014]. A study in humans systematically evaluated candidate endogenous reference genes for miRNA expression normalization in forensic body fluid identification, where the miR-320c was identified as a body fluid-specific miRNA for differentiating feces from urine [Seashols-Williams et al. DOI:10.1002/elps.201600258]. In a separate human study, the miR-320c was also validated as the fourth most stable endogenous reference gene across five forensically relevant body fluids (peripheral blood, menstrual blood, saliva, semen, and vaginal secretions) based on a comprehensive stability ranking from four algorithms [Wei et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2023.102827].
