A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-33a-5p was part of an 18-exosomal-miRNA panel with diagnostic potential for acute myocardial infarction, where it was upregulated in the coronary artery disease group compared to the acute myocardial infarction group and contributed to a random forest classifier achieving an AUC of 0.87 for AMI detection [Guo et al. In non-human primates subjected to whole-thorax lung irradiation, plasma levels of the miR-33a-5p at or below the median abundance at day 6 post-irradiation were associated with significantly reduced survival and 100% mortality before 175 days [Rogers et al.
