Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-335-5p was significantly upregulated in plasma from patients with acute spinal cord injury (SCI) at emergency room admission compared to healthy controls, as validated by droplet digital PCR [Hörauf et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms262210954]. In a separate human study of preterm newborns, the miR-335-5p was significantly downregulated in cord blood plasma from infants with early-onset neonatal sepsis compared to controls [Janec et al. DOI:10.14712/fb2023069050173]. In a mouse model of radiation-induced lung injury, the miR-335-5p was upregulated in both plasma and lung tissue early after whole thorax irradiation, identifying it as a circulating and tissue injury marker [Rogers et al. DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0232411].
