A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-339-5p was significantly upregulated (2.62 fold) in postischemic left ventricular myocardium following cardioplegic arrest during cardiac surgery [Saddic et al. DOI:10.1152/physiolgenomics.00049.2015]. In a separate human study, higher circulating plasma levels of the miR-339-5p were associated with reduced physical function in older adults, as indicated by a negative association with chair stand test performance in cross-sectional analyses [La Grotta et al. DOI:10.1016/j.mad.2025.112099].
