Forensic Context

A study in humans identified the miR-340-3p as differentially expressed in whole blood between patients with and without recurrent myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention, with significant findings in both initial and replication cohorts [Onuoha et al. DOI:10.1111/cts.13307]. A study in mice demonstrated that chronic alcohol exposure induces hippocampal injury and learning deficits, with high-throughput sequencing revealing 208 differentially expressed miRNAs and 377 differentially expressed mRNAs, including the miR-340-3p which was downregulated in the model group and regulates RGMB, ZBTB41, and SOX2 [Du et al. DOI:10.3389/Fphar.2024.1377501]. In non-human primates (Macaca mulatta), plasma levels of the miR-340-3p above the median at day 15 post whole-thorax lung irradiation were significantly associated with reduced survival, identifying it as a predictive biomarker for late radiation injury [Rogers et al. DOI:10.1667/RADE-20-00031.1].
