Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the insertion allele of the mir-3614-5p within the 3'UTR of the RYR2 gene is significantly associated with an increased risk of Sudden Unexplained Death (OR=2.03) and leads to higher RYR2 expression at mRNA and protein levels in myocardium, with in-silico prediction suggesting this polymorphism could alter local mRNA structure and potentially disrupt hsa-miR-3614-5p binding [Wang et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Forsciint.2016.12.005]. A separate review of human studies reported that hsa-miR-3614-5p is upregulated six hours post-burn in heat-shocked skin epidermal stem cells compared to controls [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100].
