A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs showing altered expression in human skin tissue samples post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-3658 was not identified among the 545 differentially expressed microRNAs found in blood samples from monozygotic twin pairs, which were analyzed via microarray and validated by qRT-PCR to establish their potential for forensic discrimination [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003].
