Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-1224-5p was significantly upregulated 11.19-fold in denatured dermis from deep burn patients compared to paired normal skin [Liang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2011.10.014]. A subsequent review confirmed its upregulation 4 days post-burn in deep partial thickness burn skin and noted its differential expression in burn hypertrophic scar tissue, indicating its association with the wound healing and scarring processes following thermal injury [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A subsequent review of thermal-induced skin injury also listed the miR-1224-5p among miRNAs dysregulated in human thermal injury [Wang et al. DOI:10.1007/s00438-024-02183-w].
