A study in rhesus macaques demonstrated that the relative abundance of the miR-375-3p in plasma at day 2 post-total-body irradiation correlated with the time to severe neutropenia, identifying it within an 11-miRNA panel for predicting hematopoietic acute radiation syndrome [Rogers et al. DOI:10.1667/RADE-21-00043.1]. A review noted that the miR-375-3p was significantly elevated in mouse serum after 7 Gy TBI and is highly expressed in pancreas and intestine, suggesting its release from damaged cells, and it was part of a combination used to distinguish irradiated subjects and predict survival in non-human primates [Jia et al.
