Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-378a was selected as a vaginal secretion-specific candidate but did not show conspicuous specificity across five tested body fluids (peripheral blood, menstrual blood, semen, saliva, vaginal secretion) in the experiment, though it still contributed to body fluid prediction within a probabilistic model [Li et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-021-02678-w]. A study in mice demonstrated that plasma exosomes isolated one day after traumatic brain injury (TBI) combined with a tibial fracture contained highly expressed miRNAs, including the mir-378a, which promoted osteoblast proliferation and differentiation in vitro, leading to enhanced matrix mineralization and accelerated bone healing in vivo [Yang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.jot.2021.09.003].
