Forensic Context

A study in mice demonstrated that plasma exosomes isolated one day after traumatic brain injury (TBI) combined with a tibial fracture contained highly expressed miRNAs, including the miR-378a-5p, and promoted osteoblast proliferation and differentiation, enhancing matrix mineralization and callus formation at the fracture site [Yang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.jot.2021.09.003]. In a separate study in rats, transcriptome sequencing of myocardial tissue following burn injury identified 23 differentially expressed miRNAs, with the miR-378a-5p being mentioned in the introductory discussion as involved in wound repair, though it was not experimentally studied in that model [Guo et al. DOI:10.1080/09168451.2020.1807901].
