A study in human body fluids demonstrated that a panel of four microRNAs, including the miR-3944-5p, enabled the identification of venous blood, saliva, semen, vaginal secretion, and menstrual blood in forensic samples with high accuracy in single-source specimens and in mixtures, with validation on aged samples stored for up to 36 years [Sauer et al.
