Located in mitochondrion. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]
A study in mice demonstrated that the COXFA4L2 is a top marker gene for pericyte cluster 7 in the hippocampus [Bakulski et al. DOI:10.1093/toxsci/kfaa069]. In human sudden unexplained death (SUD) cases, whole transcriptome sequencing of heart tissue identified the COXFA4L2 as being significantly upregulated compared to heart-healthy controls, where it is involved in reducing mitochondrial activity and oxygen consumption [Neubauer et al. DOI:10.1007/S00414-025-03414-4].
