Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the mRNA of the CSNK1A1 was significantly upregulated in salivary extracellular vesicles from both acute emergency department patients (p=0.0071) and outpatient concussion clinic patients (p=0.0002) compared to healthy controls, establishing it as a biomarker for mild traumatic brain injury [Cheng et al. DOI:10.1002/jcp.28139]. A study in human samples demonstrated that the CSNK1A1 was only minimally or not at all useful for the sexual-assault questions under investigation, as it served as a general epithelial marker that did not aid in discriminating between skin and mucosal cell origins for forensic casework [Schulz et al. DOI:10.1111/J.1556-4029.2009.01071.X].
