Enables GTPase activity and ribosome binding activity. Involved in GTP metabolic process and cytosolic ribosome assembly. Predicted to be part of ribonucleoprotein complex. Predicted to be active in cytosol. Implicated in Shwachman-Diamond syndrome. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]
Forensic Context
A longitudinal mRNA expression analysis in post-mortem human blood samples demonstrated that the EFL1 (EFL1), a transcription factor activating LYN and BLK promoters, was included in a down-regulated gene cluster and exhibited a negative coefficient in a generalized linear model with elastic net restriction developed for post-mortem interval (PMI) prediction [Antiga et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-021-96095-z]. This model, which incorporated the EFL1 among other transcripts, achieved a root mean square error of 4.75 hours in cross-validation, indicating its utility as part of a multivariate biomarker panel for estimating the time since death.
