Enables identical protein binding activity; phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase regulatory subunit binding activity; and protein kinase binding activity. Involved in cell population proliferation and epidermal growth factor receptor signaling pathway. Predicted to be located in cytoplasm. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2025]
Forensic Context
A study in humans demonstrated that the FAM83A mRNA is a differentially expressed gene exhibiting a consistent trend in expression from young adulthood to later life and was selected as one of 34 candidate age-related genes for constructing an age prediction model from peripheral blood, with the final elastic net model achieving a mean absolute error of 6.72 years on the test set [Liao et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Fsigen.2025.103373]. In a separate proteomic analysis of human body fluids, the FAM83A protein exhibited a Gini impurity score of 0, being present in all pure vaginal fluid samples and in some mixtures containing vaginal fluid, with minimal occurrence in mixtures without it, supporting its role in body fluid classification [Shehata et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2025.103343].
