The protein encoded by this gene is an adapter for the FYN protein and LCP2 signaling cascades in T-cells. The encoded protein is involved in platelet activation and controls the expression of interleukin-2. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Forensic Context
A study in humans demonstrated that whole transcriptome shotgun sequencing of low-template blood samples (equivalent to 50 pg gDNA) can identify SNPs for forensic human identification, including the FYB1 (rs6863066) located in the FYB1 gene, which was among 24 candidate SNPs that showed high genotype concordance with DNA and a resulting mean match probability of 4.5·10^-9 in both whole and degraded blood stains [Jepsen et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2024.103089]. A study in human skin demonstrated that the FYB1 gene, classified as an inflammatory/immune response gene, was significantly up-regulated in thermally injured tissue compared to normal skin during the early wound repair process (post-burn days 0-17) [Greco et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2009.06.211].
