The full-length protein encoded by this gene is an intracellular tetrapyrrole-binding protein. This protein includes a natural chemoattractant peptide of 21 amino acids at the N-terminus, which is a natural ligand for formyl peptide receptor-like receptor 2 (FPRL2) and promotes calcium mobilization and chemotaxis in monocytes and dendritic cells. Forensic Context
A systematic review of preclinical studies in rats and mice demonstrated that the HEBP1 shows decreased expression, with a reduction of more than 50% compared to control groups, in the presence of endothelial damage in animal models of erectile dysfunction [Gómez-Bueno et al. Separately, a study in male Sprague Dawley rats found that the HEBP1 was among 740 genes with significantly altered expression in liver tissue on day 4 following a 20% total body surface area burn injury [Jayaraman et al.
