A study in mice demonstrated that the ISG20 is a specifically expressed core differentially expressed gene in the 12-hour group following skin and skeletal muscle wounding, where it was down-regulated and associated with wound age estimation [Zhu et al. DOI:10.1016/j.legalmed.2021.101982]. In a separate investigation of lethal and non-lethal *E. coli*-induced sepsis in mice, the ISG20 was identified as a gene/protein marker indicating the acute infection stage, expressed at higher levels in early lethal time points [Zhang et al.
