Summary

This gene encodes a protein containing zinc finger domains. A short peptide derived from this protein is a minor histocompatibility antigen which can lead to graft rejection of male donor cells in a female recipient. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2009]

Forensic Context

A study in humans analyzing heart tissue from patients with structural heart diseases identified the KDM5D as part of a 62-gene expression signature that was significantly up-regulated in diseased samples (mean fold change 1.9162, adjusted p-value 5.4325 × 10^-07) [Fajarda et al. DOI:10.1186/s13040-020-00217-8]. A study in human samples demonstrated that the KDM5D is a male-specific gene located on the Y-chromosome [van den Berge et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2016.10.018].
