This gene encodes a member of a family of immunoreceptors that are expressed predominantly on monocytes and B cells, and at lower levels on dendritic cells and natural killer cells. The encoded protein is an activating receptor that inhibits dendritic cell differentiation and antigen presentation and suppresses innate immune response. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found. This gene is located in a cluster of related genes on chromosome 19 and there is a pseudogene for this gene on chromosome 3. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2014]
Forensic Context
A study in mice identified the LILRA2 as one of three genes (Lipg, Klrc2, Pclo) consistently differentially expressed in blood at all time points following scald-induced burn injury, indicating its association with burn injury progression [Wu et al. DOI:10.007/s10753-019-00984-5]. In human sepsis research, the LILRA2 was identified as a potential key gene for treatment and complication prevention in major burn injuries, and it was also found to be upregulated in monocytes from sepsis patients, suggesting a role for the LILR family in immune dysregulation [Ning et al. DOI:10.07/s10753-023-01803-8].
