This gene encodes a member of the low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor family. These receptors play a wide variety of roles in normal cell function and development due to their interactions with multiple ligands. Disruption of this gene has been reported in several types of cancer. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2016] CIViC Summary for LRP1B Gene LRP1B is a putative tumor suppressor and a member of the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor family. The LDL receptor family have roles related to clearance of extracellular ligand and are proposed to be involved in extracellular signal transduction. silencing and down-expression of LRP1B as been observed in renal cell carcinoma and thyroid cancer. Further Deletion of LRP1B has been associated with chemotherapy resistance in high-grade serous cancers.
