Forensic Context

A study in mice demonstrated that the MT-ATP8 gene, encoding a mitochondrial protein, was the most upregulated overlapping differentially expressed gene in the primary somatosensory cortex following both burn injury and formalin-induced inflammatory pain [Erdei et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms26083538]. In human sepsis patients, RNA-sequencing of serum identified the MT-ATP8 as a downregulated mRNA, and subsequent bioinformatic analysis confirmed its differential expression, though it was not among the top validated diagnostic hub genes [Yu et al. DOI:10.1016/j.heliyon.2023.e15034]. In Piophila casei, the MT-ATP8 gene exhibited high variability (Pi = 0.255) and the highest Ka/Ks value (0.5119) among 13 mitochondrial protein-coding genes in a 26-species comparison, indicating low selection pressure and a fast evolutionary rate suitable for phylogenetic studies [Bi et al.
