Forensic Context

A study in human blood samples stored at 4°C demonstrated that the transcript MT-ND1 was one of 11 continuously upregulated transcripts identified as a potential time-marker for determining the time since deposition (TSD) of bloodstains [Zhang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.forsciint.2024.111930]. In a separate human study of sepsis, analysis of mitochondrial gene variants, including MT-ND1, revealed no statistically significant associations with sepsis outcome [Tsalik et al. DOI:10.1186/s13073-014-0111-5]. A study in Piophila casei sequenced and analyzed its complete mitochondrial genome, identifying 13 protein-coding genes including the MT-ND1 [Bi et al.
