The protein encoded by this gene is a neuronal calcium-binding protein that binds to and modulates the function of at least two receptors, adenosine A(2A) receptor and metabotropic glutamate receptor type 5. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]
A study in humans identified the NECAB2 as a differentially expressed gene among the top 10 by P-value when comparing acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patient blood samples at 1 day versus 7 days and at 1 day versus 3 months post-event [Wang et al. A study in mice demonstrated that the mRNA expression of the NECAB2 was selected from a microarray analysis of heart tissue following methamphetamine administration and restraint, but quantitative RT-PCR validation did not show a statistically significant change in its expression [Shinone et al.
