Forensic Context
A study in C. elegans demonstrated that the NLK (lit-1) is a direct target gene of the intracellular receptor DAF-12, with its expression being regulated in a tissue-specific and stage-specific manner during larval development [Shostak et al. DOI:10.1101/gad.1218504]. Specifically, DAF-12 was found to activate the NLK expression in the pharynx while repressing it in seam and vulva cells at the L4 stage, and mRNA levels for the NLK were increased in daf-12 mutant animals.
