Summary

This gene encodes a member of the type I cytokine receptor family. The encoded protein heterodimerizes with interleukin 6 signal transducer to form the type II oncostatin M receptor and with interleukin 31 receptor A to form the interleukin 31 receptor, and thus transduces oncostatin M and interleukin 31 induced signaling events. Mutations in this gene have been associated with familial primary localized cutaneous amyloidosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Forensic Context

A study in mice and humans identified the OSMR as a novel disease gene for sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction, showing it was up-regulated in LPS-induced mouse models and validated by qRT-PCR and external datasets [Yao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.ygeno.2024.110911]. In a separate study, the OSMR was found to be up-regulated in the dorsal root ganglia of rats following UVB-induced inflammation, indicating its involvement in inflammatory pain responses [Dawes et al. DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0093338].
