A study in human brain samples using RNA-seq data and machine learning identified the PDE4D as one of 99 key genes for classifying Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and its suicidal subtype (MDD-S) [Verma & Shakya DOI:10.007/s11571-021-09724-8]. The PDE4D was found to be involved in the morphine addiction pathway, and a Random Forest classification model utilizing these genes achieved a test accuracy of 61.11% for distinguishing between control, MDD, and MDD-S groups.
