Summary

This gene encodes a member of the atrophin family of arginine-glutamic acid (RE) dipeptide repeat-containing proteins. The encoded protein co-localizes with a transcription factor in the nucleus, and its overexpression triggers apoptosis. A similar protein in mouse associates with histone deacetylase and is thought to function as a transcriptional co-repressor during embryonic development. A study in Sprague-Dawley rats demonstrated that the mRNA for the RERE (Rere) in cardiac tissue showed a significant correlation with the early postmortem interval at both 25°C and 35°C, though with a lower coefficient of determination than the primary biomarker Cdc25b [Tao et al. A study in *Sarcophaga dux* demonstrated that the RERE (ARP) is a differentially expressed gene whose expression profile, showing an opposite tendency to sarcocystatin A-alpha, was significantly influenced by pupal age and temperature (two-way ANOVA, P < 0.001) [Zhang et al.
