Summary

The protein encoded by this gene is a serine/threonine kinase that regulates cytokinesis, smooth muscle contraction, the formation of actin stress fibers and focal adhesions, and the activation of the c-fos serum response element. This protein, which is an isozyme of ROCK1 is a target for the small GTPase Rho. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Forensic Context

A study in human postmortem prefrontal cortex demonstrated that the ROCK2 was identified as a high-confidence gene common between mice and humans within the top 10% of genes related to lifetime alcohol consumption [Farris et al. A study in humans identified the ROCK2 as a candidate mRNA marker for blood deposition time estimation, demonstrating statistically significant rhythmic expression with a peak between 01:00 h and 03:00 h [Lech et al.
