Summary

This gene encodes a SRC homology 3 domain-containing protein. The encoded protein interacts with the proapoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family, Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax) and may be involved in regulating apoptotic signaling pathways. Forensic Context

A study in rat organotypic hippocampal slice cultures demonstrated that the SH3GLB1 was downregulated at 24 hours following a mild (10% Lagrangian stretch) traumatic brain injury, as identified through microarray analysis [Di Pietro et al. DOI:10.1089/neu.2009.1095]. This downregulation was part of a coordinated transcriptional response involving other genes associated with apoptotic processes, indicating its role in the cellular mechanisms activated early after neuronal stretch injury.
