Summary

This gene encodes a member of the solute carrier family 6 protein family which transports neutral amino acids. The encoded protein is thought to play a role in neuronal amino acid transport (PMID: 16185194) and may be associated with major depression (PMID: 21521612). Forensic Context

A study in mice selectively bred for high and low ethanol preference from HS-CC founders demonstrated that selection markedly affected the expression and network connectivity of numerous genes in the nucleus accumbens shell, including the SLC6A15 which was identified as a splicing hub node directly associated with alcohol-related phenotypes [Colville et al.
