A study in human iliopsoas skeletal muscle demonstrated that the SYNPO2 protein can assist in estimating the post-mortem interval (PMI) between 24 and 120 hours [He et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-025-03625-9]. Furthermore, transcriptomic analysis of human subcutaneous adipose tissue from a monozygotic twin cohort identified the SYNPO2 gene as part of a 38-gene signature strongly correlated with body mass index and fat mass, indicating its expression alterations are associated with environment and lifestyle rather than genetic background [Francesc Font-Clos et al. DOI:10.1088/1361-6579/aab85a]. A study in Sprague Dawley rats identified the SYNPO2 as a target gene for early postmortem interval (EPMI) estimation, where initial screening showed its expression had a high correlation with PMI at individual temperatures (R² >90%) [Wang et al.
