Summary

This gene encodes a highly conserved protein which is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The protein is linked to autophagy and ER stress. Knockdown of this gene increased autophagy and triggered ER stress. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2015]

Forensic Context

A study in mice demonstrated that the TMEM208 was identified as a splicing hub node directly associated with alcohol-related phenotypes through RNA-Seq and cosplicing network analysis of the nucleus accumbens shell in animals selectively bred for high and low ethanol preference [Colville et al.
